Glossary

Concentration: A large number of particular element in a given space.
Confluence:The meeting f two waterways.
Downtown: The central part of a city.
Density:The ratio between the number of a particular element and the area.
Development:Changes made to a territory by a human beings to make it liveable.
GMA: Greater Montreal area.
Growth:An increase of a phenomenon.
Immigrant: A person that settles in a different country.
Immigration:The movement of people settling in a country different from their country.
Megalopolis:A huge area grouping several metropolises.
Metropolis: A city that exerts an influence over a wide area.
Multi-ethnicity:Characteristic of a population composed of people of various origins.
Neighborhood:A part of a city that is distinguished by it's particular charactistics.
Specialized business:A business focused on a particular field.
Specialized service:A service that focuses on a particular field.
Suburb:An urbanized area located away from a city's centre.
Urbanization: A process of urban population growth and city expansion.
Urban sprawl: The expansion of urban territory into the out of a city.
